Want to partice your french? After telling you how to listen to BBC, I had to help you out and give you a few tricks to listen to Radio France, the French national public radio!
On Radio-France, most live streams are available in two different formats: windows media player and ogg vorbis. Recorded shows are in real player. What are those? Here is the list:
- windows media player: as you might guess, this is a closed format, owned and managed by Microsoft. Obviously, they do not allow Linux distribution to support it. There are ways around it, but they are illegal.
- real is also a closed format that belongs to Real Networks. Unlike Microsoft, Real Network has been cooperative with the Linux world and their format can be used legally under Linux.
- Ogg Vorbis is a free and open format.
If you want to listen to archives of Radio France shows, simply go to their website, find the show you're interrested in, and the archive. If mandriva does not find a way to play it, follow my instructions on my BBC page to install the Helix Player. Once Konqueror or Mozilla ask you what to use to play the stream, simply type hxplay.
To access the live strems, I recomment you to use the ogg format. Here are the addresses of the streams:
- France Inter: http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encoderfinter.ogg
- France Info: http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encoderfinfo.ogg
- France Culture: http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encoderfculture.ogg
- France Musiques: http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encoderfmusiques.ogg
- FIP: http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encoderfip.ogg
- Le Mouv': http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encoderlemouv.ogg
- Hector: http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encoderhector.ogg
- La CityRadio de Paris: http://ogg.tv-radio.fr:1441/encodercityradio.ogg
To listen, simply click on the address above. Once again, if Mandriva does not know how to open, indicate the Helix Player, hxplay.
Bonne chance!
